Well, I'm driving down to Coos Bay tomorrow to stay a few days. I still need to do my taxes and the plumbing isn't finished in my kitchen. I would be more excited about going to CB if the weather was forecasting sun. Oh well. It's always a bag of mixed emotions when I visit CB. On one hand, I'm happy to run into people f/school and on the other hand...well. I dunno. It's nostalgic to listen to Alice & Chains, Stone Temple Pilots, Live, etc. just as it's nostalgic to visit San Diego as I experienced a lot of 'firsts' there. Perhaps if I turn on Alice & Chains as I'm driving through Coos Bay, the nostalgia of the music will entice my emotions enough to feel excited about the idea of being there. Nostalgia is a funny thing. I cherish the sights, the smells and the music in my past that has created some great memories. I cherish my photos and choose to only remember the good things that were going on during the time the photos were taken. I cherish the people in my past that have helped create memories. I cherish the people who have taught me things and hope that I have left a footprint somewhere in their lives. At this point, with the weather starting to turn, but not quite significant enough to know that the rain is gone for awhile, I think about a place a lived in San Diego that was on top of a mountain. It had a great view, I recall a song by TLC that was playing on the radio over and over, I recall the big beautiful house I was living in was always freezing, but had a great view. I used to talk to the owner of the house in my typical 'chatty' way and wonder if she thought I talked too much (ha). I recall driving, feeling free, and enjoying the warmth of the sun and my youth.
I will soon look back on my stay in LA, when I lived in Orlando and Tampa and now Portland. I will have great memories and appreciations and hopefully know that I continued to enjoy my youth and have no regrets.
